Signs of ectopic pregnancy

Ectopic Pregnancy

Implantation of the fertilized ovum outside the uterus is what we call “ectopic pregnancy”. Have you ever wondered how these events happen? The fallopian tube, an anatomical part of the reproductive system of a woman, plays an important role in here. This is where the fertilized ovum travels to attach itself into the uterine lining. If problems are encountered along the way and the fertilized egg cannot pass through, tendency Is that it will settle there, in the fallopian tube. That is why it is called, “tubal pregnancy”. The incidence rate for this is one over fifty in ectopic pregnancies.

In exceptionally extraordinary cases, some implantation happens inside the ovary, cervix or in abdomen. While some, have “heterotropic pregnancy” wherein there is a normal conception in the uterus and at the same time an ectopic conception. This is attributable to the fertility procedures that was done like artificial insemination or IVF. The only resolution in having an ectopic pregnancy is to terminate it, or else it may cause more bleeding, rupture and breakage of the fallopian tube with intensifying pain. If bleeding isn’t treated, hemorrhagic shock may occur which possibly will cause death. Also, it will cause irreversible damage to the fallopian tubes. Fortunately, with the sophisticated and advanced health care technology, many cases have reduced dramatically and are treated early.

Reasons for Ectopic Pregnancies

For the fertilized egg to travel down from the fallopian tubes to the walls of the uterus, approximately 9 days are needed. Currently, the primary culprit for ectopic pregnancy is still unknown because while traveling down, the fertilized egg will settle and implant itself where it feels it will stumble upon. And unknowingly, if the fertilized egg didn’t get into the uterus in time, then it will settle and implant itself into the tube. Moreover, there are modifiable factors that contribute to the occurrence of ectopic pregnancy. These takes account of smoking and late pregnancies. While the unmodifiable causes include aging and tubal damage. Also, there are infections that add up to the blockage of passageway of the egg. Such infections were Chlamydia and Gonorrhea; these are the common causes why women have ectopic pregnancies. Anatomical surgeries are also affixed to the cause like tubal surgeries or abdominal operations.
